Kuwait renewed its full support and commitment to achieving the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals for the year 2030 in the field of education. This came on the lips of the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the (Global Education Meeting 2030) under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) over a period of three days and concluded its work in the Belgian capital on Wednesday. Kuwait's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Ambassador Dr. Adam Al-Mulla, said that the meeting focused on the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals to raise awareness of the importance of education around the world.. He added that during the meeting, the issue of education for refugees and migrants was raised, noting that Kuwait plays a key role in providing support to these people to obtain education.. He pointed out that many international conferences have been held in Kuwait to promote this goal, and these efforts have been praised by senior officials participating in this meeting.. "The right to access education is guaranteed to all in the country's constitution and we are working with the Ministry of Education to improve the quality of our education by benefiting from the experiences discussed at this international meeting," he stressed. For his part, Assistant Undersecretary at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Education, Salah Al-Majidi, said, "We in Kuwait reaffirm our commitment to achieving the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals, which is supported by the government." He added that the meeting was "very fruitful", noting that information and experiences on education were exchanged among the participating countries.. He pointed out that the fourth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals contains eight items that must be achieved by 2030, including the essential role of education and research as key drivers of sustainable development.. "Despite some progress at the global level, we are not on track to achieve the fourth Sustainable Development Goal by 2030," said the final communiqué of the meeting, entitled "Education in an Interconnected World: Ensuring Inclusive and Equitable Development." The statement added that 750 million young people and adults are illiterate, two-thirds of them women, as well as 262 million children who have not attended classes.. Some 300 bodies and officials, including United Nations agencies and organizations, multilateral and bilateral agencies, regional organizations, teaching workers, civil society organizations, the private sector, foundations, youth and student representatives participated in the meeting.
